Obituary for Frances Berniece Rieke
Frances Berniece Rieke

Frances Berniece Rieke passed away Sunday, February 19, 1995. Frances was born March 7, 1926 at Vernon, Texas to Charley Thomas and Nora Lee (Hines) Reynolds. The family moved to Altus in 1928.
She started to school at Porter Hi, five miles south of Altus. In about the fourth grade, she transferred to the Altus schools, attending Eugene Field, the junior high and the high school where she graduated in 1944. Frances enjoyed playing basketball in high school and was a good, fast guard for her team. After high school, Frances worked at the drugstore in the old Orient Hotel, where she met a young Air Force Pilot by the name of Kenneth L. Rieke. After working in Washington, D.C. for two years, and after Kenneth returned from World War II Frances made a trip to Colorado and married that pilot who swept her off her feet, and she loved him dearly for almost 49 years. Frances and Kenneth were married in Wheatridge, Colorado, on April 26, 1946. From that union, they have two sons, Paul and David.
frances was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family and her home were her career. She was often complimented on her lovely home and was a talented home interior decorator, gourmet cook, floral arranger, and seamstress. Her cathedral quilts will be heirlooms for her family. She found time in her busy day to volunteer for the PTA, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, and to volunteer for her church.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth of the home; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Paul and Debbie Rieke and David and Jackie Rieke, all of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Pete Reynolds of Altus and Earl Reynolds of Blair, Oklahoma; three sisters, Eva Mae Bryan of Napa, California; Virginia Stuchell of Mangum, Oklahoma; and Rebecca York of Altus; as well as four grandchildren, Kristen, Kristine, John and Jeramy, all of Houston, Texas.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lawrence Reynolds, and one sister, Ruby Bjoralt.
