JOHNSON
Gayle "John" Eugene Johnson, age 78, of Altus, passed away early Sunday morning, August 10, 2014, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.
John was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 4, 1935. He graduated high school from Watsonville, California and joined the United States Air Force. On September 30, 1954, he married the love of his life, Anna Mae Norris, and they spent the next fifty-nine wonderful years together before his death. While serving his country for twenty years and twenty days, John and his family were stationed in several different locations. In 1969, the Johnsons began Johnson Oil Company which he owned until the time of his death. A Christian businessman, John had a strong work ethic and was very involved in the Tabernacle Baptist Church as a youth leader. John enjoyed fishing and working on the family farm, but his most favorite times were spent with his family, whom he dearly loved, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents as well as four sons, Gayle Jr., John, Lynn and Michael Johnson, he is survived by his wife, Anna, of the home; two sons, Retired USAF COL Bob Johnson and his wife Janis of Yorktown, Virginia and Charlie Johnson of Altus; four grandchildren, Haley Johnson of Altus, Cassie Johnson of Altus, David Johnson and wife Meagan of Yorktown, Virginia, and Michael Johnson of Chicago, Illinois; four great grandchildren, Jadon Holmes, Austin Adams, Charlie Ann Adams, and Christopher Johnson; one sister, Sharon Maguson and husband Deon of Lincoln, Nebraska; two brothers, Walter Creps and wife Brenda of Lincoln, Nebraska and Jimmy Creps and wife Rita of Lincoln, Nebraska along with Darie Myers and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for John Johnson will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 14, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Hawn, Pastor Madison Clinton and Brother Synette Matthews officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the American Juvenile Diabetes Association in memoy of John Johnson.
