Obituary for Geneva Ruth Moody
Geneva Ruth Moody, age 88, went to be with her Lord Sunday, February 28, 2010 in Altus, Oklahoma.
Geneva was the daughter of Cullen and Sarah (Church) Cribbs born April 7, 1921. She grew up on their family farm until she was united in marriage on February 12, 1939 to Melvin E. Moody of Cement, Oklahoma, the son of Roy A. and Rebecca (Reimer) Moody. They shared 66 wonderful years together until his death March 11, 2005.
Five children were born of their union: Ron, Kaye, Becky, Stephen and Dane. Geneva"s greatest joy was providing for her husband and children a home filled with beauty, warmth, unity, great aromas from her kitchen, and an atmosphere filled with love and laughter.
In addition to her love of books and traveling, she loved playing pinochle and 42 with family and friends proving to be a fierce competitor to them all.
In 1955, her husband entered the ministry, where she served as a dedicated minister"s wife. Her joy was teaching a women"s Sunday School class throughout the years. Her love and knowledge of the bible caused others to fondly remark that Geneva knew as much about the bible as her husband. At age 87, she made a commitment to herself to read her bible from beginning to end one more time. She read each morning with her cup of coffee until she reached the last verse of her very worn bible.
Together, they served the following Oklahoma churches: Forrest Hills Baptist Church, Idabel, 1955-1956; First Baptist Church, Cooperton, 1956-1957; returning to her hometown of Fletcher, 1957-1961; First Baptist Church, Walters, 1961-1968; First Baptist Church, Henryetta, 1968-1974. They moved to Altus in 1974 where her husband served as Associate Pastor and Administrator at First Baptist Church until his retirement in 1982. In retirement, they served at First Baptist Church, Willow and ending their service at Hess Baptist.
Geneva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Melvin E. Moody, parents, Cullen and Sarah Cribbs, brothers, Winfred Cribbs and Bob Cribbs, sisters Aletha Jacobs, Geraldine "Jerry" Mike, and Irene Cline Thomas.
She is survived by her five children: Ron Moody and wife Glenda of Nampa, Idaho, Kaye Young and husband Don of Roanoke, Virginia, Becky Moody of Altus, Stephen Moody and Dane Moody of Helena, Montana; eleven grandchildren: Amy Black, Angela Matthews, Luke Moody, Brad McClure, Marc McClure, Eric Bates, Ashley Bates, Cody Moody, Melissa Morrow, Rhiannon Lindsey and Megan Tremel, 15 great grandchildren, sisters Billie LaPointe of Erie, Michigan and Sue Roden of Norman, Oklahoma.

Memorial donations can be made to The Mission Trips Fund of First Baptist Church in Altus, The Gideons, or a charity of your choice.

The family will receive friends Thursday, March 4, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Geneva Moody will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 5, 2010, at the First Baptist Church in Altus with Reverend Keith Wiginton, Reverend Roy Moody, and Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will be held at the Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher, Oklahoma, at 3:00 p.m.
