Obituary for George Lee Dickerson
George was born on June 29, 1941 in McQueen, Oklahoma to George Lee, Sr. and Sallie Mae (Powers) Dickerson. He grew up in Mangum and graduated from Mangum High School with the Class of 1959. George worked in law enforcement for over 25 years in Mangum, Sayre, and Elk City, and retired as a Captain from the Altus Police Department in 1988. He married the love of his life, DeAnna Glosup in Burkburnett, Texas on May 27, 1964. While serving in the Altus Police Department, George also started his own house painting business. Demand for his painting services grew over time, however, all he eventually had time for was working on his rent houses. He was very proud of the fact that he started a successful rental business from scratch that evolved into a family business and is still going strong over 40 years later. George was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus and helped with the Miss Altus Pageant for over 40 years. Working was his main hobby, but his greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. George also enjoyed working on houses, old cars, and tractors with his grandkids, and researching his family's ancestry and sharing what he learned with whomever would listen, and going out of his way to help others. Additionally, George enjoyed telling stories to all of his family and made sure that a birthday was not complete without him signing happy birthday in his own special way. George was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Stacie Dickerson; a brother, Edward Dickerson; and a sister, Linda Joy Hughes.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, DeAnna; two sons, George Dickerson and wife, Mitzi, and Charles Dickerson; a daughter, Shanda Davis; 10 grandchildren, Reid Nichols and wife, Sarah, Corbin Dickerson and wife, Analycia, Jordan Dickerson, Morgan Burnam and husband, Derrick, Thompson Dickerson, Trey Pierce and wife, Kaylen, Garrett Pierce, Cabe Dickerson and fiancée, Bailey Bryant, Brittany Mungaven an husband, Tanny, and Tori Jeschke; 14 great grandchildren, Hayden, Riley, Gunner, Kraymer, Braylon, Maley, Phoenix, Walker, Ryder, Swayze, Lexie, Kamdyn, Kimber, and Falynn; two sisters, Eva Hughes and Shirley Kay Dickerson; as well as many other family members and friends all of which will miss him dearly.
