Obituary for George Raymond Ford
George Raymond Ford, age 57, of Altus, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008, at his residence.
George was born April 29, 1951, in Altus, Oklahoma, to George Perley and Adaline (Cullen) Ford. He was a 1969 Altus High School graduate where he was a lineman for the state champion Bulldogs football team. George received an academic and football scholarship upon graduatio9n and continued to play football at the University of Oklahoma before deciding to focus solely on his academic endeavors. He transferred to Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he graduated in 1973 with a degree in microbiology. He worked as a lab technician at Comanche County Memorial Hospital after graduation. He left Lawton, Oklahoma, to work as Director of the Lab at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
He met his wife, Connie Stanfill, a registered nurse, and they married on January 11, 1984, in Altus, Oklahoma. They moved to San Jose, California, where he went to work as head of the lab at San Mateo County Hospital. He retired from there in 2005. George was heavily involved with his three children's BMX competitions. They spent many years traveling the world and were successful with numerous state, national and world titles.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Connie Stanfill-Ford of San Jose, California; a son, George William Ford of Oklahoma City; a daughter, Audrey Ann Ford of San Jose, California; and a son, Derek William Stanfill-Ford, also of San Jose; a brother, Jim Ford of Lebanon, Oregon; a sister, Jan Ford of Altus, and several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Memorial services for George Ford will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008, at Lowell-Tims Chapel in Altus with Reverend Mark Morey, Pastor of the First Christian Church in Hobart, officiating. Following the service, the family will greet friends at the home of George's sister, Jan Ford.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to the Humane Society, Altus, Parks, or any youth organization.
