Obituary for Gerald M. Wallace
Gerald M. Wallace, 95, resident of Altus, passed away on December 28, 2021, at the Magnolia Creek Nursing Facility in Altus, Oklahoma.

Gerald was born on June 28, 1926, in Hobart, Oklahoma to his parents, George and Florence Wallace. He was raised and educated in the school of "hard knocks" in Southwest, Oklahoma. When he was fifteen he worked pulling corn with two mules and a wagon from sun up to sun down for six dollars a day. At the age of seventeen, the United States called him up for service he unwavering answered the call. He served in the Infantry division of the United States Army from 1942 to 1946. During the war, Gerald saw heavy combat while in the pacific, and on May 1945 he was at the battle at the Okinawa Maeda Escarpment, or what the Americans called “Hacksaw Ridge.”

Gerald honorably separated and received several merit awards for his valiant duty to his country. He was awarded an Army Occupation Medal, a Victory Ribbon, three overseas service bars, an Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, a good conduct medal, and the Purple Heart.

Gerald lived a life of service to family, country, and earth and would stop and marvel at the world around him. Hard work was the foundation of the success that Gerald received, he worked as a farmer, the United States Postal Service, owner and operator of Lakeview Motel, and had numerous rental properties he oversaw them until he was eighty-four. After he retired he purchased two farms and leased them. Gerald was an entrepreneur before the word was invented.

Gerald gave his life to Jesus at a young age and was a lifelong Baptist. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Altus. In 1951 Gerald married Sue Rogers of this marriage they were blessed with two children, Connie Wallace and Rick Wallace. On June 19, 1976, Gerald married Ann Anstead Hunter. They enjoyed forty-three years of marriage together.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, George and Florence Wallace; his brothers, Pat Wallace, Andy Wallace; his sister, Ruthie, and his son-in-law, Arthur Peterson.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; his son, Rick Wallace and his wife Carol; his daughter, Connie Peterson; a brother, Glen K. Wallace; his sister, Georgan Reitmeier; His grandchildren: Kyon Wallace, Richard White, Aaron Wallace, Jessica Kitchel, S'vana Wallace, Michael Wallace, and Annie Wallace. his great-grandchildren: Jenna White, Emily Wallace, Ellie Wallace, Abi Smoot, Jilly Wallace, Catey Wallace, Evie Smoot, Cole Wallace, Declan Wallace, and Welles Kitchel; as well as nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2022, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2022, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Doug Altom officiating, interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery with military honors.
