Gerardo Figueroa, age 62, of Altus, passed away at his residence on Monday morning, June 23, 2014, in Altus.
Mr. Figueroa was born in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico on May 22, 1952, to Liborio and Concepcion (Burgoin) Figueroa. On July 21, 1973, he married Maria A. Palomino, the love of his life, and they spent the next forty wonderful years together before his death. Growing up in Mexico, Gerardo moved to Los Angeles, California in 1976, where he worked for a sports equipment manufacturing company. In the early 1990"s the family moved to Hanford, California where he worked doing sanitation, on a ranch, until 2004, when they moved to Altus. For many years, Gerardo was the custodian at First Baptist Church, in Altus, before beginning his current job as a custodian at Navajo School for the last nine years. A very talented musician, Gerardo, at one time, played in a rock band, but for the last several years, he has spent his time singing and playing Christian music.
Preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, he is survived by his wife, Maria, of the home; three children, Arcelia Puga and husband Rodolfo of Altus, Yadira Figueroa of California and Gerardo Figueroa, Jr. and wife Carmen of Yukon, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Joshua Puga, Brianna Puga, Michael Rocha, Gabriel Rocha, Sirenna Rocha, Jonathan Figueroa and Nathan Figueroa; three sisters, Rosa Figueroa, Laura Figueroa and Marcela Figueroa; one brother, Humberto Figueroa along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Gerardo Figueroa will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Tovar officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will conduct a celebration of life service at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 7 p.m.
