Gilbert Z. Hopkins




Gilbert Hopkins was born at Lugurt on August 29, 1921 and passed away on December 17, 2006 at the VA center in Lawton, Ok. His parents were Albert Hopkins and Lula Mae (Winters) Hopkins. He attended Mt. Tepee School, earned a GED, graduated from several industrial courses and earned college credits. He was a career employee of Oklahoma Natural Gas, where he rose from manual laborer to become a Superintendent. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, post Master twice and a Rainbow Dad. He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army stationed in Europe(France, Germany, Belgium) during WWII. He received several medals during his military service and was honorably discharged. He enjoyed fishing, raising cattle and being on his farm an was a devoted care-giver to his beloved wife after she suffered a major stroke in 1996. He was a hard working, honest and gentle man, who had a deep abiding faith in his Savior.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Laudise Mae (Starr), two sons; Gilbert Gene Hopkins and his wife, Judi, Jerry Wayne Hopkins and his wife, Linda; one daughter, Kathryn Childress and her husband, Jerry; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
