Gladys Roberson Foreman, age 95 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the Plantation Village Nursing Center in Altus.
Gladys was born in Duke, Oklahoma on November 3, 1922 to her parents Charlie Austin Bradford and Donie Bell (Leverett) Bradford. She grew up in Duke and graduated Class of 1940 from Duke High School and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Southwestern State College in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Gladys married Earl Luther Roberson on September 19, 1942 in Duke and they were married for over 38 years before Earl's death in 1980. She started her teaching career in Duke and Victory, Oklahoma and then for Altus Public Schools with over 36 years as a third-grade elementary teacher. In 1987 she married Gene Foreman and they were married almost 20 years before his death in 2007. Gladys was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Altus where she stayed very active for many years and she enjoyed playing piano in her Sunday School class. She was a member of the Oklahoma Educators Association and the National Educators Association for many years. After her teaching career Gladys spent many selfless hours volunteering at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. Gladys enjoyed being a teacher and attending the First Baptist Church and she always enjoyed a good game of dominoes. She treasured the time spend with her family and many friends and she will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by her parents and husbands, Earl and Gene; her son Gary Dale "Gizmo" Roberson; five brothers, L.B. Bradford, Clay Bradford, Cecil Bradford, Jim Bradford, and Wayne Bradford; her sister, Elsie Bradford; her grandson, Tobin Luke; stepdaughter, Vicki Fussell; and step son-in-law, Wes Fussell; Gladys is survived by her daughter Marilyn Barnes and husband Lynn of Duke; her grandson, Rex Roberson and wife Lisa of Duke; step grandchildren, Rebecca Warren and husband Todd of Duke; Billy Barnes and wife Wendy of Calumet, Oklahoma; and Benny Barnes of Duke; great grandchildren, Brad Roberson and fiance Megan Wilkerson of Texas; and Tricia Duncan and husband Drew of Victory, Oklahoma; her great great grandchildren, Kayden and Dayton Duncan; her foster stepdaughter, Bev Ray of Kansas; daughter-in-law, Suzie Roberson of Altus; sisters-in-law, Juanita Bradford, Lorene Cox, Bonnie Perryman, Meda Craft, and Hughla Foreman as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members and friends.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm on Tuesday evening, August 14, 2018 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating.
Interment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Altus under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
