Obituary for Glen Red Hicks
Glen (Red) Hicks, 88, of Hollis Oklahoma, passed peacefully from this life on May 14, 2022, in Hollis, Oklahoma.
Glen was born on March 6, 1934, in Lamesa, TX to his parents, Joseph Clyde Hicks and Cora Gertrude (Smith) Hicks. He was one of nine children born into the Hicks family. He grew up in West Texas and started working at a very young age to help provide for his family.
He worked on cattle and sheep ranches and farm fields, in both Texas and New Mexico. On February 18, 1953, in Roswell, New Mexico Glen married the love of his life, Wanda Jean Holloway.
Looking to provide better for his young family they moved further West to California. Soon his skills and can-do attitude was recognized by a golf course developer who put Glen to work building golf courses over the state of California.
His hard work and dedication paid off and he soon found himself as a golf course superintendent in Fallbrook, CA, and then in Hemet, CA. In 1976 the family moved to his bride's home state of Oklahoma. Glen worked in the Oil and Gas Industry as a mechanic until his retirement. He was proud that his son followed in his footsteps and carried on Glen's position upon his retirement.
Glen loved traveling to visit family, horses, riding for pleasure, and team roping. He shared this love with all of his children. His favorite roping partner was his daughter Patricia. In his last years he enjoyed watching RFD TV and the Cowboy Channel He never missed a rodeo or any PBR event.
Glen was an incredibly kind, gentle, and tender man who was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a dedicated family man and husband. He was always a true gentleman and always had a handkerchief in his pocket to offer. Those who knew him will forever remember his selfless nature and big heart.
