Obituary for Grace Byrd
Grace Byrd, long time resident of Hollis, Oklahoma, passed away at the age of 69 on January 23, 2023
Grace was born on December 19, 1953 to Gregorio Gutierrez and Estefania Rubio in Orange Grove, Texas . In her early years she grew up with her five brothers and four sisters. In her early twenties Grace gave birth to her first daughter Cynthia. Twenty years later Grace was blessed with another daughter Myriah. When Myriah was three years old they begin their journey to Hollis, Oklahoma. Grace shortly after began working in the janitorial department for Hollis Public Schools at Sally Gillentine Elematary School. There she worked for 20 years until her retirement on July 1, 2017. Grace also worked at Great Plains National Bank in Hollis, for eight years and eight months doing custodial work. She was a hard worker that was dedicated to anything she set her mind to.
In Hollis is where Grace met her quote "strong black cowboy" Norman Byrd. They were together for three years before marrying on March 30, 1999. They were blessed with a wonderful 20 years of marriage before his passing on June 12, 2019. During their years together Norman raised Myriah (his beetyeyes) as his own child and Grace was forever thankful for their beautiful family. Leaving everlasting memories created over the years in their home on Vivian Street.
Grace loved spending her free time with those around her. She would spend time taking pictures of her family, even if they were photo ready or not. She loved to shop for her Western décor for her home. This home she decorated at any chance, especially for the holidays. Grace also loved the old school classics and would take any chance she could to jam out! She loved watching Netflix and Hulu, especially loved to cheer on her team, the Dallas Cowboys. She would often scroll through Facebook on her iPad, using it to keep in touch with her family, she loved talking to them and anyone else she came across. Regardless of if she knew them or not. Everyone would know she was Grace Byrd from Hollis Oklahoma! She wanted nothing more than to spread love to anyone she could.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents Gregorio Gutierrez and Estefania Rubio; husband Norman Byrd; sister Manuela Gutierrez; and son Nathanial Gonzalez.
Grace is survived by her daughters Cynthia Molina and Myriah Skaats; brothers Greg Gutierrez, Juan Gutierrez, Paul Gutierrez, Gilbert Gutierrez, Jessie Vasquez; sisters Lupe Gutierrez, Tisha Bell, and Stephanie Gutierrez; grandchildren Erika Will and Ashley Molina; as well as many nieces, nephews and several more relatives and friends.
