Obituary for Gregory Allan Poindexter
Gregory Alan Poindexter, Hollis resident, passed away on January 16, 2022, during a brief hospital stay in Bozeman, MT at age 62.
Gregory was born in Richmond, Virginia on January 29, 1959, to Henry Poindexter and Alice (Smiley) Poindexter. He grew up and attended school in Virginia. Gregory began work driving logging trucks at the young age of 18. Trucking became his way of life. During his many years of experience as an owner/operator, he hauled everything from wood chips to specialty loads like wind turbine equipment. The last several years of his work career were spent with Daily Express, a nationwide heavy and specialized trucking company based in Carlisle, PA.
Greg married Juva Ruth Harshman on October 16, 1999, in Louisa, VA. Their union spanned 22 years. Greg never joined any clubs or organizations. He was content with being part of a brotherhood of truckers, which consisted of a tight-knit circle of close friends and colleagues. He created life-long bonds with these friends and they were always there for one another and are considered family. Many continue to show their love and support of Greg and his loved ones, even in his absence.
When he was on the road, Greg loved spending time making memories with his family, working with his hands, talking and sharing stories, and helping others in any way he could. He had made many friends throughout his lifetime and was extremely fond of children, who found him to be patient, kind, and funny. Greg was a very giving and warmhearted person. He was always doing something to help the less fortunate. His kindness and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alice Poindexter.
He is survived by his loving wife, Juva Ruth Poindexter, son, Scott Poindexter and his wife, Jess; three daughters: Brittany Olive and husband, Richard; Ashley Poindexter; and Stephanie Thompson; his brother, Brian Poindexter and his wife, Dawn; 8 grandchildren: Steven Poindexter; Emma-Kate Adams; Lillian Olive; Liam Olive; Beckham Smith; Josie Olive; Jackson Poindexter; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
