Grover Lee Taylor, age 62, of Vinson, passed away at his home early Friday morning, November 20, 2009.
Grover was born on May 26, 1947, in Mangum, to James William and Mary Jo (Williams) Taylor, Sr. After graduating from Reed High School, in 1965, he served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Returning to Harmon County, he worked a short time at the Hollis Cotton Gin and then moved to Oklahoma City where he was engaged in construction work. Moving back to Southwest Oklahoma, Grover lived in several different locations due to his job. In 1992, he moved back to Vinson where he made his home until his death. Reading western books, fishing and spending time with his family and friends was what Grover loved the most in life.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by four children, Sheila Culbertson and husband Jeff of Wright City, Missouri, Tiara Taylor of Oklahoma City, Shelly Jech and husband Jerry of Kingfisher, Oklahoma and Sandy Petersen and husband Trent of Aviano AFB, Italy; four brothers, Jr Taylor and wife Stephanie of Vinson, Bobby Taylor and wife Margaret of Blair, Tommie Taylor and wife Barbara of Grand Lake, Oklahoma and Johnny Taylor and wife Sunny of Mangum; six grandchildren, JC Culbertson and wife Jessica, Taylor Culbertson, Maranda Martin, Ivana Petersen, Gabrielle Petersen and Trent Petersen, Jr.; one great granddaughter, Abbi Culbertson and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorial services for Grover Taylor will be held at 10 a.m., Monday at the Vinson Baptist Church with Pastor Shawn Johnson officiating. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
