Obituary for Gwendolyn Gayle Brooks
Gayle Brooks
Gwendolyn Gayle Carpenter was born to Bertram Emmett and Wilma Juanita Mosley Carpenter on January 5, 1943 in Granite, Oklahoma and died April 5, 2020.
During the happiest time of Gayle's life, childhood, she was surrounded with friends and family in Greer County. One of Gayle's best memories was of she and her sister, Joyce, being dropped off by the school bus on Friday evenings to spend the night with Granny and Granddad Mosley. Their favorite pies were always waiting for them, baked by Granny. Singing, flower gardening, sketching landscapes, and visiting with friends were some of Gayle's favorite activities. Gayle lived most of her adult life in the Dallas, Texas area. She was known for her strong work ethic and was trusted for her clear, direct manner. She leaves many friends at Mangum Skilled Nursing where she was a long time resident. While there she made a profession of faith in Christ, and was baptized in the bath tub! Choosing to invest in her grown kids' lives brought them very unexpected blessings.
Gayle was preceded in death by her father-Bert Carpenter, son-James Darren Brooks, sister-Joyce Elaine Ware, and mother-Nita (Shorty) Carpenter. She is survived by four children; Donna Shackelford (David), Bryan Shelby (Jeri), Tonya Ludeke (Todd), Threasa McIntosh, and six grandchildren; David James McIntosh, Amanda Pace, Zachary Pace (Spenser), Paul David Shackelford, Hannah Shackelford and Annabella McIntosh Bustad and three great grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
