Obituary for Hamon Ira Beets
Hamon Ira Beets came kicking and screaming into this world on February 14, 1914 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Walter D. and Mamie Ruth Medlin Beets. On November 2, 1940 he married Bobbie Lou Morris whom he truly loved with all his heart and depended greatly through 67 years of marriage. Bobbie Lou said that once she saw him dance she knew she had to marry him!
He was a dedicated employee of the City of Altus Water Department for 30 years and enjoyed farming, fishing, camping, traveling and arguing with the television. He also liked winning at dominoes but didn't particularly like losing. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, a charter member of the Good Sam Club, a fifty year member of the Masons, and an unapologetic Republican. He had an opinion about everything, and was a man who didn't hesitate to assert his strong will. He most of all loved to talk and socialize with family and friends.
Hamon lived to the ripe old age of 94 years and was preceded into the arms of the Heavenly Father by his parents, Walter and Mamie Roth Beets, wife Bobbie Lou, two sons: Charles Beets, Jr., Jerry D. Beets, Elaine Bertholet, grandson Jerry DuWayne Beets, Jr and sister Gladys Lorene Worthington.
He is survived by brothers; Walter D. Beets, Jr., Donald Beets and sister Viola Mae Edwards, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Hamon Beets are scheduled for Saturday, June 7, 2008, 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with David Player officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
