Obituary for Harlan Anderson
Harlan Duane Anderson, age 79 of Danville, California passed away Fri. May 17th. in Castro Valley, Ca. after a very long illness.
Harlan was born in Montevideo, Minnesota on May 30, 1939 to Kermit and Lillian (Haugerud) Anderson. Harlan grew up briefly in Queens, NYC prior to settling in Oklahoma with his family. His family moved to Elk City, and then on to Altus where Harlan attended high school at Altus High, (Go Bulldogs!) This is where he and Barbara Trammell, his life long wife and mother of their three children met, and they began building their lives together.
Harlan went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma in 1962. As soon as he graduated from OU he was recruited by Standard Oil, which is now known as Chevron Oil Company, where he had a very long and distinguished career of 38 years. He was an Executive with Chevron, and his job took him on business trips throughout the world.
He and his family, on a couple of his assignments, lived overseas in London and in Weybridge, Surrey, England, also in Shanghai, China. Harlan’s travels with Chevron took him to Africa, Australia, Austria, Baharin, Belgium, Bogata, Columbia, Shanghai and Beijing China, Egypt, London England, France, Germany, Haiti, Holland, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, Papau, New Guinea, Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tenges, Turkey, and Venezuela.
Anyone who knew Harlan knew that he traveled throughout the world at peace because of his tremendous faith in, and love of, Jesus Christ our Lord. There was never a hesitation in sharing the sacrifice of, and love of Christ on the cross for the world. Harlan was a Bible Study Fellowship leader, Sunday school teacher, Prayer leader.
Harlan regularly helped and served Thanksgiving dinner at the Salvation Army for many, joining in the celebration of the holiday. After retirement, he was a member of The Gideons which led him to minister to inmates at San Quentin Penitentiary which included some on death row.
Harlan will truly be remembered by all as someone who provided so much and touched so many lives during his journey. He will be dearly missed but his loved ones are at peace knowing he is no longer suffering and is at home with the Lord. Some people have larger than life lives, this was Harlan.
Preceded in death by his parents Kermit and Lillian Anderson, brothers, Orlo “Andyâ€, Claire, Arden “Ardieâ€, and Kermit Jr. Sisters, Angeline “Angie†Walker, and Sharon Edwards. Father and Mother-in-law, Albert Hurst, and Esther Faye Trammell Hurst.
Harlan is survived by his wife Barbara (Trammell) Anderson, their three children Steven D. Anderson, his wife Patricia, Becky Halsch, and John Douglas, and his wife Cari. Harlan was blessed to have seven grandchildren, Joseph, Christopher, Peter, Finn, Jonathan, Nicholas, and Mackenzie.
Sister, Doris, and brother-in-law Charles “Chalk†Norton, sister Joyce Garner, and brother-in-law, Jerry Trammell and his wife, Mary, as well as many other family members and friends.
Harlan will be missed by many.
