Obituary for Harley Elmer Horne
Harley Elmer Horne, age 77, of Altus, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2007, at Plantation Village Nursing Center in Altus.
Mr. Horne was born on March 9, 1930, to Edward and Lily (Wells) Horne in Dog Creek, Oklahoma. Leaving school at the young age of nine, he worked on a farm to help support his family. While a young age, Harley traveled to many locations while working in many different job fields. Moving to Wilburton, Oklahoma, he met Elsie Collins and they were married in
Ft. Smith, Arkansas on August 18, 1940, on their third date. They spent fifty-eight wonderful years together before his death. During the early 1950's he worked at a meat packing plant in Wichita, Kansas, until back problems caused him to change jobs. It was a this time he began working as a private security guard with Ritchie Construction where he spent the next thirty-five years.
Preceded in death by his parents, Harley is survived by his wife, Elsie, of the home; two children, Terry Horne of Antihem, California and Sheila Spooner and husband Keith of Altus; five grandchildren, Nathan Horne and Kelsey Horne of Charleston, West Virginia, Vittoria Horne and Vincent Horne of Reno, Nevada and Harrison Spooner of Altus; one sister, Lucille Horne of Enid, Oklahoma; a special friend, Benny Giddeon and wife Doris of Wichita, Kansas along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Harley Horne will be at 2 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus with Rev. Erin Martinez officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
