Obituary for Harrell W. Cotner
Harrell W. Cotner, age 86, long time Jackson County Businessman and Civic Leader, passed away at his home in Martha on Monday, January 23rd, 1989. Services have been set for Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Altus, officiated by The Reverend James Preston. Burial will be in Crowell, Texas under the direction of Lowell Funeral Home.

Born in Colbert, Oklahoma, he was the son opf Pioneer parents S. Thomas and Francis Cotner. He graduated from Waurika High School in 1920 and later attended Sherman, TX Business School where he was an Accounting Major. He was married to Bess Thompson in Crowell, Texas. Cotner worked for the Public Service Co. from 1922 through 1946, and was an Oil Developer and Cafeteria Owner until he returned to work for Public Service Co. He retired in 1968.

He was a Charter member and past President of the Hollis Rotary Club, member and Board Member of the Altus Rotary Club, member of the Altus Chamber of Commerce, Masonic Lodge #62, Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club, and Mayor of Martha for 17 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Bess Cotner, of the home in Martha; two sons, Thomas H. Cotner and Frank S. Cotner; a number of nieces and nephews to include State Representative Howard P. Cotner of Altus.
