Obituary for Helen Louise Oglesby
Helen Louise Oglesby, 84, longtime resident of Altus, passed away July, 12, 2019 at Plantation Village Assisted Living in Altus, Oklahoma.
Helen was born April, 23 1935 in Tipton, Oklahoma to Arvel and Daisy (Summers) Russell. She was a hardworking woman from the depression era. She was a traditional woman that loved her family, if someone was at her house she was offering to feed them, No! it was not refused-you ate !'
Helen loved cooking and baking you never left hungry no matter how long she had been working that day. She was famous for her homemade chocolate pies, german chocolate cake (she always made extra icing for her girls) and banana pudding, fried chicken (without skin) fried pork chops and fried potatoes and you wouldn't want to eat any where else.
Helen loved spoiling her grandchildren and was good at it. The family always joked that her depression era living is what made her so frugal. There was a standing family joke about how she would recycle gifts. She didn't see them as gifts for her but rather gifts for others at some future date.
She was God fearing woman that had many trials throughout life but refused to let anything get the best of her except snakes, because to her they were all rattlesnakes.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Forrest Ethan Oglesby, father Arvel Franklin Russell, Mother, Daisy Katherine (Summers) Russell, baby boy Oglesby, daughter, Pamela Sue Morrison, brother, Roger Dale Russell, sisters Irene Verne, Violet Pace, Myrna Reynolds, grandchild, Jon Paul Morrison.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Cathy Shook and husband Ricky, Lorrie Taylor and husband Lonnie, brothers Doss Russell and wife Cleta, Millard (Shorty) Russell and wife Norma Jean, Arvel Russell and wife Linda, brother-in-law Jim Pace, grandchildren, Stacy Haumpy and Alfred, Tracy Barnett and Brad, Mickey Shook and Nastasha, Dustin Shook, Brandon Shook and Ceres, Jennifer Adams and Luke, Derek Taylor and Lydia, Kirstie Depan and Eric, Ethan Taylor, twenty five great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren.
Helen's family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday July 16, 2019 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel in Altus, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at Navajo Cemetery.
