Helen Violet Tidwell, 80, passed away at home Monday, January 16, 1995 after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 2, 1914 in Roxton, Texas to John and Mary DeSpain. Helen moved to Altus as a very young girl. She later married Oscar Tidwell in Altus on October 16, 1941. Helen was a longtime member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church. She was also a member oof the Rebekah Lodge and numerous Flower Clubs. Helen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she was the Poppy Chairman for many years.
Mrs. Tidwell was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Eulus DeSpain; and three sisters, Minnie Boykin, Essie Sadler, and Opal DeSpain.
She is survived by Oscar, her husband of 53 years; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Lynn Rowland of Altus; a son, Rodney Tidwell of Ponca City, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Heather Lyn Irwin, Shawn Allen Tidwell, Rashell Lyn Rowland, and Tyson Deith Rowland; one great-grandchild, Kyle Lee Irwin; three nephews, Lloyd Saddler, Doyle Sadler, and Talma Sadler; two nieces, Bernice Cribbs and Modell Lovett; one brother-in-law, Alfred and Ruby Tidwell; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Bonds and Audrey Tidwell.
