Henry Amel Jones
Henry Amel Jones was born near Altus, Oklahoma November 21, 1907 to pioneer parents, the late Henry G. and Mary C. Jones. He attended schools in Jackson County and graduated from High School at Ozark and was one of the first students to attend Altus Jr. College in 1926. He died December 6, 1993 at The Jackson County Memorial Hospital. He married Nellie O'Rear October 26, 1929 and she preceded him in death in January of 1946. To this union was born 1 son Gary A. Jones. Amel married Aletha Fry may 4, 1947 at Altus, Oklahoma. Like generations before him, Amel was a farmer and avery active until he retired in 1972. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church since the 1920's and was ordained a Deacon on November 13, 1946. He served in several capacities in the Church where he also taught 13-14 year old boys in Sunday school for 25 years. He had been working with older adults in the church since 1973.
Services are scheduled for 10am Thursday at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Interment will be in the Altus Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife Aletha Fry Jones of Altus, Oklahoma; children Gary A. Jones cand Alceon of Altus, Oklahoma; Jennifer A. Moran and Jerry of Elk City, Oklahoma; Linda K. Holloway and Joe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters Marvirie Niles of Waco, Texas; Freddie Lee Payne, of Atlanta, Georgia; Bobby Hamilton of Borger, Texas; Victoria Chennault of Altus, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Alisha Holloway, Vanessa and Jim Hughes; one grandson-in-law; two great grandddaughters, Hillary and Haley Hughes, one grandson Richard Moran.
Preceded in death by his parents, and wife Nellie O'Rear.
