Obituary for Herbert W. "Red" Laird
Herbert "Red" Laird, age 87 longtime Olustee resident passed away Friday, December 31, 1999 at Grace Living Center in Altus. He was born September 26, 1912 in Davidson, Oklahoma to George and Nellie May (Black) Laird. On October 25, 1942, Herbert and Auneta Brunson were united in marriage in Altus, Oklahoma and she preceded him in death July 15, 1986. In 1990, he married Etta Jean Hestand in Olustee, she preceded him in death in 1992. He served in the US Army during World War II for four years, most of which was served overseas. He was the Postmaster in Olustee until his retirement in December of 1977. Mr. Laird was an active member of the Church of Christ in Olustee for most of his life.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Auneta in 1986; second wife, Etta Jean in 1992; 1 brother; 5 stepbrothers; and 1 stepsister, 1 step-grandson.

He is survived by 5 step-daughterts, Florence Russell of DeQueen, Arkansas, Baarbara Pryor and husband Jim of Olustee; Peggy Miller and husband Robert of Altus, Oklahoma, Janice Rhode and husband Bill of Kansas City, Missouri, and Sandra Hestand, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many friends.

Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00pm Monday, January 3, 2000, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Bill Osborne and Ed Lobaugh officiating. Interment will follow in the Olustee Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
