Herman Loyd Kopecek, age 86, of Reed, passed away early Friday morning, March 23, 2012, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center, in Elk City.
Herman was born on October 11, 1925, in Granite, Oklahoma to Emil Frank "Loyd" and Annie (Pauloski) Kopecek. He attended Willow School through the eighth grade and later graduated from Ocina High School in 1944. Herman was vice president of his senior class and was known for his basketball skills. After high school, he proudly served his county, in the United States Navy, on a transport ship from 1944 until 1946.
On December 20, 1953, he married the love of his life, Martha Ann Pearson, in Mangum, and they spent the next fifty-nine wonderful years together before his death. After their marriage, they moved to the Reed community where they were active in farming and ranching. Herman was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mangum. He was active in numerous cattle associations, 4H and FFA organizations, the Mangum Mounties, served on the Greer County Fair Board and was a Mason. Herman loved cattle, horses and was a big fan of wrestling and watching western movies, but spending time with his family and friends, especially his great grandchildren, brought the most joy to his life.
Preceded in death by his parents and one son, Herman Eugene Kopecek, he is survived by his wife, Martha Ann, of the home; one daughter, Ann Robinson and husband Scott of Mangum; one granddaughter, Holly Hamon and husband Dirk of Mangum; three grandchildren, Makayla, Jaylyn and Derek of Mangum; one sister, Kathryn Harmon of Dallas, Texas along with many other relatives and friends.
