Obituary for Hilda Imogene Milner
IMOGENE MILNER
With her family at her side, Imogene Milner, age 89, of Duke, passed away late Saturday evening at Hollis.
Born March 29, 1917, in Olustee, Imogene was the daughter of the late William Allison and Lillie (Rorex) Saunders of Martha. She graduated from Martha High School and attended Altus Junior College. It was there that sh met the love of her life, Harold. They were united in marriage on February 25, 1937. They established their lifelong time together on the Milner farm south of Duke, in the Prairie Hill area. Imogene was a lifelong member of the Prairie Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, secretary, treasurer and organist.
As a girl, Imogene worked in the cotton fields with her brothers and father. At the age of eleven her mother was stricken by crippling arthritis. She was thrust into the job of working, cleaning, care taking of her family without hesitation. She was a tremendous cook as many can attest. Her recipes were all in her mind and not on paper.
Harold and Imogene were both active with the Gideon and Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, singing, and painting. Her love, patience, devotion, faith and friendship have been passed on to all who knew and loved her.
