Obituary for Hubert R. "Skeet' Green

Hubert R. "Skeet" Green was born May 3, 1923 in Elmer, Oklahoma. He was the son of the late Dave & Audrey (Reynolds) Green. He died February 25, 2003 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

He married Laverne Steimer, December 27, 1945 at the First Baptist Church in Vernon, Texas.

Skeet served in the US Navy during world War II. He served as a 40MM antii-circraft gunner aboard the USS Orestes. His ship a PT Boat loving referred to as a "Mothership" was attacked on numerous occasions and Skeet was wounded during one of the battles.

Following the war, he worked as a diesel mechanic where he learned the skills necessary to attain his own business. He founded Green Motor Company in Altus and the company became a thriving International Harvester dealership in Altus and was awarded numerous awards. Skeet also farmed in Jackson County. Skeet was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved all of the outdoors. He was a spiritual man, much softer inside than what he protrayed on the surface.

Survivors include his wife Laverne Green of Altus, Oklahoma; one daughter Linda Green of Okarche, Oklahoma; one grandson Houston Green of Altus; one sister Billie Sue Chick of Cedar Hill, Texas; one brother-in-law William Darnell Steimer of Eufauls, Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews, and a host of many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Kenneth B. Green; three brothers and three sisters.

Services for Skeet green are scheduled for Friday, February 2003 at 2 pm at the Lowell-Tims Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore and Bob Maxey officiating. Interment will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
