Obituary for Imogene Moreau Smith
Imogene Moreau Smith, age 99, longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Imogene was born on May 29, 1922 in Olustee, Oklahoma to her parents Floyd W. Moreau and Eugenia (Brendle) Moreau. She attended college at Oklahoma University and soon after married Joe Williams Smith on December 24, 1941 in Olustee and they enjoyed over 55 years of marriage together before Joe's death in 1997. As young military family in the Army Imogene and Joe served at numerous duty assignments including; Oklahoma, California, and Rhode Island before retiring in Altus where Imogene has resided for many years. Imogene worked for the National Security Administration in Baltimore, Maryland and took great care of her family. Imogene enjoyed decorating her home and traveling and she will be missed greatly by her family.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe W. Smith, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army; two brothers, Clay Moreau; and Benjamin Moreau; and her sister, Alwayne (Moreau) Parrish; Imogene is survived by her son, Dr. Floyd Lee Smith and wife Mary Susan Smith; and her daughter, Barbara Jo (Smith) Yarborough; two grandchildren, Brian Lee Smith; and Robert Baldwin Smith; other family members include; Clay Lynn Moreau. Jeannie Moreau, Bobby Ann Moreau, Benjamin Moreau, Jr., Patsy Kay Moreau, Mary Beth Moreau, and Tom Parrish.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating.
Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
