Ira Maxelle "Max" Lankford, age 90, of Altus passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Max was born March 11, 1924, in Martha, Oklahoma to the late William Otis and Katie A. (Read) Lankford. Max graduated from Martha High School and had attended college. A resident of Altus since 1945, Max married the love of his life, Alma Wynell Powell, on July 3, 1953, in Altus, Oklahoma and they spent sixty-one wonderful years together before his death.
Max worked at Altus Air Force Base in Civil Service as an Engineer Technician for over twenty-nine years, and was elected as the Altus Street Commissioner, where he served the citizens and the City of Altus for twelve and one-half years. He also worked as a draftsman for Lugert-Altus Irrigation District sixteen years. Max was active with the Woodmen of the World Society and a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, in Altus.
Preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; William Virgil and Alma Powell; son Ken Lankford; one sister, Reta Madden and two brothers, Louis Lankford and Bill Lankford, he is survived by his wife Wynell, of the home, in Altus; daughter-in-law Lisa Lankford Renfro and husband Tom of Edmond, Oklahoma; one brother Donnie Lankford and wife Cathey, of Amarillo, Texas, three sisters, Barbara Pursifull and husband Charley of Edmond, Oklahoma, Lou Walls of Milledgeville, Georgia, Jan Vorderbrug and husband Harry of Panama City, Florida. He is also survived by his granddaughter Kelsey Bishop and husband Brad of Columbia, Missouri; and other family, Beth Harris and husband Dustin, and Leah Renfro all of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Celebration of Life service for Max Lankford will be held Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 11 am in the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore and Pastor Doug Altom officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, in the Martha Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, January 14, 2015, 6 to 8 p.m., at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
