Irene Burke Stephens Wilson, a long time Altus resident passed peacefully Saturday March 19, 2011 in the home of her daughter in Indiahoma. She was born on August 5, 1918, 51/2 miles NW of Tipton on Otter Creek in her grandfather's home, Dr, John T. James. Her parents were the late Joe and Sallie James Burke. She lived there and attended a one room school, Blue School and then went to Tipton Schools until 1935. The family moved to Altus and she graduated from Altus High School in 1937.

She married John B. Stephens in 1940. They had two daughters. He passed away in December of 1951. She later was married to Travis Wayne Wilson. She worked as a sales clerk in various local businesses. In 1983 she opened her first Antique Shop, Granny's Antiques with co-owners the late Dovie Garrett and Ellen Waldrop. In 1984 she returned to full time work at Mistletoe Express. She finally retired at age 70. She then moved her shop to 113 E. Commerce, known as Yesterdaze Treasures and remained there till 2006.

She was a 48 year survivor of ovarian cancer and lived those years with great joy. The cancer returned in October of 2010.

She is preceded in death by her husband John B. Stephens, her parents, Joe and Sallie James Burke, a great niece Stephanie Carder, a son-in-law Dorman Ray King, a sister-in-law Linnie Banister, and Travis Wayne Wilson.

She is survived by two daughters, Ella Louise Stephens King of Altus and friend Lee Ballard of Vernon, Texas and Elizabeth Sue Stephens Weeks and husband Tommie of Indiahoma; five grandchildren, Rhonda King Dusenbery and husband Robert "Duse" of Altus, John King of Electra, Texas and wife Angie of Montana, Randy King and wife Stacy of Russeville, Arkansas, Ranee' Butler and friend Bobby Carter of Indiahoma, Jenni Browning of Indiahoma and friend Vance Elliott of Lawton. She has 12 great grandchildren; Alison King of Arkansas, Keaten King of Wilson, Oklahoma; Katy King of Altus; Khloe King of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Dakota King of Montana; KayLee Butler, Kelsey Butler, Kara Butler, KinLee Butler-Carter, Keegen Butler-Carter, Austin Elliott, and Addison Elliott all of Indiahoma. She is also survived by her sister Sallie Jo Burke Carder and brother-in-law Bill Carder of Altus; three nephews, Mackey Carder and wife Prissy of Bedford, Texas, Bob Carder of Altus, and Eddy Carder and wife LeeAnne of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three great nephews, Cody and Chase Carder of Oklahoma City Oklahoma; Zachary Carder of Bedford, Texas, and one great-great niece, Caroline Carder of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She has two nieces; Lois Aduddell and Nadine Winters of Lawton and one nephew, Sonny Banister of Missouri; great nieces Brenda Parker, the late Jackie Dudley, Pam Russell, Patti Martin, Judy McConnell, Nita Russell, Cheryl Tate, and Diane Montgomery all of Lawton and a great nephew Bill Aduddell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She has one cousin, Mattie Mae Huff of Tipton; special friends; Sue Sirmons, Jane Gay, Brenda West, Floyd and Dustin Young, Bobby Payne and many other friends and special friends.

Services are at Tamarack Church of Christ in Altus on Wednesday March 23, 2011, at 2:00pm where she has been a member since moving to Altus in 1935. Bill Osborne will officiate. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

The family visitation will be on Tuesday evening March 22, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
