Obituary for Irene Louisa Holsey
Irene Louisa Holsey, 89, of Yukon, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday, January 29th, 2011, at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Irene was born December 12th, 1921, in Delores, Colorado, to Benjamin and Phoebe (Jones) Gullett. She graduated from Duke High School in 1939. She married Ralph Holsey October 24, 1946, and they had two sons. Tragically, Ralph was killed in an airplane accident on July 31, 1954. As a widowed mother, Irene raised her two sons during an era when it was hard to be a single parent. She persevered as a loving mother and managed to work long and hard to put her two sons through college. Irene worked as the church secretary at First Baptist Church in Altus for several years as well as the Lugert-Altus Irrigation District. She was loved and admired by many.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph, two sisters, Ethel Purdue and Bert Roberson Collier, three brothers, Newt Gullett, Earl Gullett, and Harold Gullett, Irene is survived by her two sons, Steve Holsey and wife Teresa of Tulsa, and Dr. Robert (Bob) Holsey and wife Christy of Mustang; thirteen grandchildren, Dwight Holsey, Laura Jane Holsey, Dustin Holsey, David Holsey, Brian Holsey, Daniel Holsey, Scott Holsey, Lindsie Chrisley, Kyle Chrisley, Chase Holsey, Lauren Holsey, Stevie Holsey, and Cruz Holsey; seven great-grandchildren, Sophia Hulstine, Elijah Holsey, Catori Holsey, Shalee Holsey, Dustin Holsey Adrian Holsey, and Kaden Holsey, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 4, 2011 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus.
Funeral Services for Irene Holsey will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Altus with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
