Jack B. Bufkin age 84, of Altus passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 1, 2005 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Jack was born in Decatur, Mississippi on September 1, 1921 to Frank and Lillian (McCoy) Bufkin. Moving to Sulphur Springs, Texas as a young boy, Jack joined the United States Marines and served for seven years during World War ll. Leaving the Marines, Jack joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for twenty-eight years, retiring on September 30, 1970 as a Senior Master Sergeant working as an Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor. After retiring form the U.S. Air Force, he worked as a mechanic and later learned the skill of Carpentry working until he was seventy-eight years old.
For sixty years, Jack was married to the love of his life, Theresa J. (Tatum) Bufkin. Together they have five surviving children. Four daughters, Tonya Jones and husband Lee of St. Augustine, Flordia, J.B. Bufkin and husband J.D. Jones of Covington, Virginia, Jude Watkins and husband Bull of Altus, Oklahoma and Kathy Anderson and husband Charlie of Altus, Oklahoma and one son, Bruce. In addition, he is survived by four grandchildren, Tommy Myernick of New Jersey, Tiffany Watkins of Tennessee, Larissa Bourne and husband Paul of Texas and Jay Watkins; one great-grandson, Jackson Bourne of Texas; one sister, Vivian Kids of Sulphur Springs, Texas along with Many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many other friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and one brother, Billy Bufkin.
Funeral services for Jack B. Bufkin will be Thursday, November 3, 2005 at 4 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family of Jack B. Bufkin will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm.
