Jack Edward Briscoe, age 84, of Altus, formerly of Hess, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 19, 2014, at English Village Manor, in Altus.
Mr. Briscoe was born in Hess, Oklahoma on April 10, 1929, to Loyce Jim Henry and Artie Ilda (Banks) Briscoe and graduated from Southside School in 1947. While on wheat harvest, Jack met the love of his life, Shirley Grace Kirkwood, at a skating rink in Grant, Nebraska. They were married on July 22, 1951 and spent the next sixty-one wonderful years together before Shirley"s death on October 19, 2012. Working together, side by side, they were involved in harvesting, farming, running cattle, spreading fertilizer in west Texas and Oklahoma. In the early 1960"s, Jack and Shirley moved to Maud, Oklahoma where they bought a ranch and started raising cattle. After almost 40 years, in July of 2000, they moved back to the family home, in the Hess community, where they enjoyed semi-retirement and being close to their family.
