Jack Newberry, 72, died Tuesday October 2nd at the Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City following a lengthy illness.

Services are scheduled for Thursday at 2:00pm at the Lowell Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev. Marshall Howard, Pastor of the Moore Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Funeral Home.

Newberry was born March 31, 1918, in Patterson, Oklahoma to pioneer parents Clarence Meeker and Emma Bennett Newberry. He married Mary Etta Gray June 2, 1947, in McAlester, Oklahoma.

He was a disabled Veteran on World War II, serving with Company C. 603rd Tank destroyer Battalion in the U.S. Army.

For many years, he was associated with Oklahoma Seismograph of Shawnee, Oklahoma. After moving to Blair, he was employed at the Blair Farmer Gin and Elevator, and later retired from the United States Postal Service where he was a postal clerk at the Blair Post Office for 12 years.

Newberry was an active member of the Blair Masonic Lodge 332 and the Blair Order of the Eastern Star. He was a current member of the Altus Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include, his wife Mary of the home, two sons and daughters-in law; Charles "Skip" and Velma Newberry, of Granite, and Larry and Beverly Newberry, of Blair, Oklahoma; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Gary McLaughlin of Blair and Gail "Suzi" and Mike Young of Vacaville, California; one brother, C.M. Newberry of Wilburton, Oklahoma; three sisters, Mary Denton of Coludcroft, New Mexico; betty Wilson of Wilburton, Oklahoma and Dale Hansen of Tuson, Arizona; also surviving are sic grandchildren, a mother-in-law, Mrs Enid bray of Blair, and several nieces and nephews.
