Obituary for James Albert Burbank
JAMES ALBERT BURBANK
James Albert Burbank, Sr., 89, Altus, passed away at his home Saturday evening, October 14, 2006.
Mr. Burbank was born on June 24, 1917, to Albert Lee and Grace Elizabeth (Dalton) Burbank in Ordway, Colorado. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and later from Sioux Falls College. After serving his country in the United States Navy, Mr. Burbank spent over fort years with Northern States Power as a water chemist for the power plant. He married Phyllis Jane Cheney on November 4, 1939, and they spent sixty-six wonderful years together before his death. Mr. Burbank enjoyed being part of the Cathedral Choir of Sioux Falls, the Western Oklahoma State College Chorus in Altus, being a scoutmaster, camping, hiking, woodworking and being an amateur astronomer.
Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Lillian Schueter and a son, Charles A. Burbank, he is survived by his wife, Phyllis; eight children, James Burbank, Jr., Altus, David Burbank, Altus, Peter Burbank of Lexington, Kentucky, Denise Burbank of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Daniel Burbank of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Christopher Burbank of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Michelle Burbank of Aurora, Colorado and Annette Burbank, Aurora, Colorado; fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be conducted on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 7 p.m. at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Joe Arledge officiating. A Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, October 18th, 2006 at 11 a.m. with Father Joe Arledge officiating with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial will follow at a later date in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
