James Boswell Manley, age 87, of Altus, passed away early Friday, November 20, 2015, at Tamarack Retirement Center, in Altus.

Mr. Manley was born in Baytown, Texas on March 8, 1928, to Cornelius Beverly and Ethel (Atkinson) Manley. After graduating from League City, Texas High School in 1946, he worked at several jobs before joining the United States Air Force. Mr. Manley proudly served his country from 1952 until his retirement, as a Tech Sergeant, in 1972. On December 30, 1955, he married Erma Olene DeYong, of Tipton, and they spent the next fifty-nine years together. During his career, he was stationed at Sheppard AFB, Texas, Clark AB, Philippines, Lowry AFB, Colorado, Laughlin AFB, Texas, Hickam AFB, Hawaii and finally, where he retired, at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ. After his Air Force retirement, the family moved to Altus where they could be near Erma"s home. For a short time, J.B. worked at Eagle Pitcher Mines near Olustee before beginning a twenty year career with Rent City, retiring in 1993. In his spare time he loved doing woodworking projects.

Preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Edna Mae and Merle and one brother C.B. Manley, Jr., he is survived by his wife, Erma; two daughters, Denise Phelan and husband John of Altus and Gayle Sevedge and husband Michael of Ada; five grandchildren, Christen Burson and husband Bryan of Altus, Matthew Phelan of Altus, Nick Sevedge and wife Amanda of Ada, Erica Winchester and husband Mark of Ada and Jonathan Sevedge and wife Kendra of Ada; thirteen great grandchildren, Brenley, Katelyn, Preston, Taylor, J.D. Braylee, Ashlyn, Caden, Kacee, Zayne, Camden, Tessa and Jagger along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for James Boswell Manley will be at 2 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2015, at the Highland Heights Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
