Obituary for James Don Sanders
James Don Sanders was born on December 1, 1916 at Waldon, Arkansas, to B.M. and Gertie Sanders. He grew up in eastern Oklahoma at Heavener. He lived in Jackson County since 1950 in the Victory community and at Olustee. He passed away Wednesday, September 24, 1997.
He married Cleo Simmons on September 11, 1935. He was a member of the Hontubby Baptist Church. He worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad as a brakeman before joining the Army during World War II. He served with the 543rd Field Battalion, stationed in the Philippine Islands. He was a member of American Legion Post 0213 and the Disabled American veterans chapter of Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife, Cleo; 6 sons and 2 daughters; don of Victory, Oklahoma; Jim and Mary Ann of Thomas, Oklahoma, gene and Linda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jaydee and Carolyn of Anadarko, Oklahoma, Mike and Cindy of Allen, Oklahoma; Perry and Marilyn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Judy and Eddy Graham of Hobart, Oklahoma; and Linda Bilbrey of Yukon, Oklahoma. Also 21 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Also, 4 half-sisters; LaVonne Walker of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Iola Holman of Denver, Colorado; Wanda Bodemann of Iola, Kansas; and Betty Cowan of Drumright, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; a brother, Hon of Casper, Wyoming; a sister; an infant son; a half-brother; and a step-mother.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Jackson County Memorial Hospital Home Care.
Services have been scheduled for 10:00 am Friday, September 26, 1997 at the Olustee First Baptist Church with Rev.Noel George and Bill Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in the Victory Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
