Jan Michele Salter, a beloved wife, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Altus, Oklahoma, on January 22, 2026. She was 50 years old.
Jan was born on October 26, 1975, in Minden, Louisiana, to Lambert Cox and Connie Cox.
She was raised in Minden, where she was baptized and nurtured in faith at First Baptist Church of Minden. She graduated from Minden High School in 1994.
On October 21, 1994, Jan married the love of her life, Tyson Salter, they had met through mutual friends Haughton, Louisiana. Their life together included many moves as Tyson served in the United States military. Jan proudly supported her husband during assignments in Jacksonville, Florida; Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Beaufort, South Carolina, where they lived for nearly ten years.
While stationed in Virginia Beach, Jan earned her Medical Assistant certification, reflecting her desire to care for others. She later retired due to declining health, a challenge she faced with remarkable strength, grace, and unwavering positivity.
In 2019, Jan and Tyson made Altus, Oklahoma their home. Jan was known for her kind heart and genuine love for people. She had a special gift for making others feel valued and uplifted, always offering a smile, encouragement, or comforting presence even while enduring her own medical struggles.
Jan deeply loved animals, especially her cats and her two cherished dogs, Zoey and Daisy, who were truly like her children.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lambert Cox, and her beloved fur babies, Zoey and Daisy.
Those left to cherish and honor her memory include her devoted husband, Tyson Salter; her mother, Connie Williams Cox; her sister, Denise Pegan and husband David; her brother, Michael Cox and wife Cindy; her brother-in-law, Tait Salter and wife Vingie; along with extended family and many friends who were blessed by her warmth and compassion.
Jan will be remembered as a loving, caring, and gentle soul whose greatest wish was for everyone around her to be happy. Her positivity, kindness, and enduring smile will Live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Private family services will be held at a later time.
