Obituary for Jeanne Trevett

Jeanne Trevett, a longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at Tamarack Assisted Living Center at the age of eighty-eight. Jeanne was born on June 25, 1937, in Mittelbronn, France, to Laurent and Marie Walleth Lambing. She was raised in the small village of Mittelbronn, which is nestled in the Vosges Mountains near the France-Germany border.  Jeanne was baptized into the Catholic faith at Église Saint-Martin, a church formed in the twelve century. This helped form a foundation of love and devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  She attended school locally and began working at a U.S. military base in Faulquemont, France. Their fate would interject. She met and fell in love with a young airman by the name of Francis Trevett.  At the age of twenty-five, she married Francis Trevett. Together, they welcomed two sons, Michael Francis and Martial Jack, while living in France. In 1965, the family moved to Altus, Oklahoma, and Jeanne gave birth to their daughter, Kim, the following year. Her beloved husband passed away in 1974, leaving Jeanne to raise their children on her own—something she did with strength, pride, and fierce independence. Though small in stature, Jeanne had a mighty spirit. She didn’t drive until later in life, but she was always determined to provide for her family. She became a U.S. citizen as soon as she could, proud to embrace her new country while never forgetting her roots. Jeanne worked at Kellwood as a seamstress for fifteen years and worked for several years as a scrub nurse at Altus Air Force Base Hospital until her retirement in 1989.  Jeanne was known for her honesty—sometimes brutally so—but always with a sense of humor and love. She was elegant and strong-willed, and she lived life to the fullest and on her own terms. She was an independent parent and a generous caregiver to others, including her daughter's friend's children and her granddaughter. Blessing her with the title "NeNe."

A lover of the outdoors, Jeanne enjoyed working in her yard, sunbathing, and spending time at her and her daughter's cabin at Hicks Mountain. She loved traveling but also appreciated the wonder of the local scenes like going to the beach at Lake Lugert.

Bright colors brought her joy, as did the companionship of her dogs: Tiffany the cocker spaniel, Katie the American Spitz, and Daisy the chiweenie. Fluent in French, German, Alsatian, Latin, and eventually English, Jeanne taught herself the latter by watching the news, listening to her husband, and reading with a translation book always at hand. Her faith remained central to her life—she was a devoted Catholic and regularly helped with church events like turkey dinners.

Left to honor Jeanne and carry on her legacy are her children: son, Michael Francis Trevett and wife Amelia; son, Martial Jack Trevett and wife Kathy, and daughter, Kim Cates; grandchildren, Carly Jeanne Cates, Monique Trevett, Michael Trevett, Kristine Trevett, and Mitchell Trevett; and great-grandchildren: Abigail, Brendon, Jack, Luke numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She was preceded in

death by her husband, Francis Trevett; her parents, Laurent and Marie Lambing; and her four older brothers: Laurent, Eugene, Joseph, and Marcel. Jeanne Trevett lived a vibrant life filled with resilience, authenticity, and love. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

A come-and-go visitation will be on Wednesday, from 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
