Obituary for Jefferson Wayne Graves
Wayne Graves, age 87, a lifelong resident of Jackson County, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2008 in Altus.
Wayne was born in Ringling, Oklahoma on July 14, 1921 to Jeff and Bessie (Smith) Graves. He served his country during WWII in Okinawa and received an honorable discharge in 1946. Wayne married Clara Mae Murphy on December 27, 1941 in Altus and she precedes him in death. On February 18, 1995, he married Don Nell Adams and they were married for thirteen years before his death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hess and was a Mason at the Elmer Lodge. Wayne farmed cotton in Hess most of his life and he enjoyed fishing, watching baseball, and watching and talking about WWII. He enjoyed telling old stories and being with family and he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his wife Clara Mae; his parents; two children that dies in infancy, David and Mary; one daughter, Marsha Garrison; three brothers, Paul Graves; Roy Graves; J.R. Graves; three sisters, Lucille Ellis; Gladys and Bertie; Wayne is survived by his wife Don Nell of the home; one son Eddie Graves and his wife Jan of Wichita Falls, Texas; two daughters, Linda Smith and her husband David of Blair; Becky Vigil of Altus; son-in-law, Rick Garrison and his wife Gracie of Lawton; one brother, Fred Graves of Altus; one sister, Ruth Thomas and her husband Bill of Duncan, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Tony Garrison; Bobby Graves; David Smith, Jr. and his wife Misty; Brian Smith and his wife Belinda; Christy Meli and her husband Randy; Melody Gibson and her husband Jerry; three great-grandchildren; Michael Smith; Brianna Smith; Karee Beth Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Services for Wayne Graves will be Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Chapel in Altus with Reverend Randy Overstreet officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family of Wayne Graves will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2008 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
