Obituary for Jessie Lee Huey
J.L. Huey passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2014, at Tamarack Assisted Living Center in Altus.
Mr. Huey was born in Foss on Feb. 17, 1920, to Jerry Van and Alma Marinda (Anderson) Huey. On Dec. 6, 1941, he married the love of his life, Lillie Mae Kiehn in Cordell. They spent the next 66 wonderful years together before her death on Dec. 13, 2007. Shortly after their marriage, he was drafted and on June 10, 1942, he entered the U.S.Army where he proudly served his country until Nov. 22, 1945. After his discharge, the family made their home in Bessie where he worked for the railroad and at several other jobs. In 1966, he began working with Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base, as a plumber, retiring in 1983. A longtime member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, J.L., enjoyed spending time with his family, playing an occasional domino game and helping anyone that he could.
J.L., was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Patricia Rafferty; a great-granddaughter, Shannon Brooke Olson; two sons-in-law, Kim Pearson and Greg Rafferty; eight sisters, Ollie Lovelace, Ida Mangus, Laomi Harrelson, Naomi Gilbreath, Ruby Douglas, Mabel Harrelson, Gladys Harrelson and Jewell Meier; and two brothers, Dyke Huey and Clifton Huey.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Wissell and husband Ron of Altus; four grandchildren, Debra Pearson of Altus, Cathy Deaver and husband Craig of Altus, Crystal Brown and husband Dennis of Enid and Cheyenne Weatherford and wife Tanisha of Florida; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Boyd Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home from 6 to 7 p.m. today.
