Joe Clifton Carlton, age 84, of Altus, passed away Monday afternoon, June 23, 2014, at the Veterans Hospital, in Oklahoma City.

Mr. Carlton was born in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma on July 9, 1929, to Rufus Finis and Lorene (Smith) Carlton. After graduating high school, Joe married the love of his life, Ruby Marie Lee, on September 22, 1929, and they spent the next sixty-four wonderful years together until his death. On February 24, 1948, Joe entered the United States Air Force and for the next twenty-two years he proudly served his country in many different locations, including England, Germany, Alaska, Hawaii, Texas, Altus and Tinker, where he retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. After his retirement, Joe joined the Civil Service where he served in the Personnel Office for ten years. Joe also served in the Civil Air Patrol where he obtained the rank of Captain. A life-long musician, Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Philip Carlton and one daughter, Brenda Carlton, he is survived by his wife Ruby, of the home; one son, Tony Carlton of Altus; two sisters, Mary Winters and husband Glade of Dallas, Texas and Dorothy May Keller of Las Vegas, Nevada along with many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Joe Carlton will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Hobart Rose Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
