Joe Earl Conrad, 74, of Altus, Oklahoma was welcomed into heaven on Thursday, February 20, 2014. Funeral Services will be held in the chapel of Lowell Tim"s Funeral Home 2:00pm Saturday February 22, 2014 with Rev. David Player officiating. Burial will follow at Altus Cemetery.
Joe was born November 25, 1939 in Fredrick Oklahoma to Gilbert Frank and Jerry (Martin) Conrad. He grew up in Tipton Oklahoma where was known as the local practical joker, a phenomenal clarinet player with "That Tipton Band", and of course participated in the Future Farmers of America. Joe was voted "Best Dressed" his senior year graduating as a Tipton Tiger in 1958. In May of 1961 he met the love of his life, Judy May Wilson and six months later almost to the day, November 4, 1961, they married at the United Methodist Church of Tipton.
Joe began a 54 year career at Fred Seals Plumbing in Altus, Ok. He continued to hone his skills in plumbing, heating and air and in 1967 partnered with Delbert Jones to form C & J Plumbing in Guymon, Oklahoma. In 1972 Joe and Judy packed up their 4 babies and returned to Altus to be near their parents. In October of that same year Joe Conrad Plumbing was created. The next forty-two years the company truly operated as a family business where Judy and the girls answered the phones, scheduled appointments and took care of the books. Joe worked alongside his son, daddy, brother, grandsons, nephews and every now and then even his girls.
Joe was reunited in heaven with his wife, Judy May, his parents, son Thomas Don Conrad, and great-granddaughter Lillian Marie Lorah. Joe is survived by his daughters, Tracy and her husband Jeff Lorah of Altus, Oklahoma, Tammy and her husband Robert Nucci of Choctaw, Oklahoma, Jeri Lyn and her husband Brent Drury of Olustee, Oklahoma, one sister Jan and her husband Anthony Lamb of Arlington, Texas, one brother Johnny Conrad and wife Leslie of Altus, Oklahoma, nine grandbabies: Penny Reece, Justin Lorah, Brodee Nucci, Joshua Lorah, Bradyn Nucci, Jessica Lorah, Cade Drury, Elijah Drury, and Saylor Drury and 13 great-grandbabies, scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, life-long friends, and loyal customers.
