John Henderson, age 61 of Eldorado, Oklahoma, was promoted to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 19, 2018 after a short but valiant fight with cancer.
John was born in Altus, Oklahoma on May 10, 1957 to his parents Bryce and Mary (Nohner) Henderson. He graduated from Altus High School Class of 1975 with twelve years perfect attendance. John went on to earn his bachelors of Science degree in Agronomy at Cameron University. On December 2, 1978 he married the love of his life Kim Thomason in Eldorado and they have enjoyed over 39 years of marriage together. John and Kim settled in Eldorado where John worked with his father-in-law and brother-in-law in custom harvesting. He also farmed and ranched, and along with his siblings operated the "Sandyland" vineyard. John devoted 20 years to the Oklahoma Boll Weevil Eradication Organization, starting out as a trapper, field unit supervisor, assistant director and the last 10 years as director. John served his community of Eldorado in many ways including, serving on the Eldorado Town Council, recently as the Mayor, he retired after 20 years from the volunteer fire department serving many of those years as assistant chief. He also served on the Eldorado Coop Board, the Creta Water Association Board and the Jackson County Flood Plain Board. John was a longtime member of the Corinth Baptist Church in Eldorado and enjoyed cooking for many church functions. John was a workaholic and enjoyed farming, ranching, working in the family vineyard and meticulously taking care of his yard. He especially loved growing many plants, several that are memorials of family and friends that have passed. He was an avid OU football fan. Most of all John loved his family and treasured the precious time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents Bryce and Mary; brother Tom Henderson and sister-in-law Josephine "Jo" Henderson; sister Patricia "Trish" Crosswhite; John is survived by his wife Kim Henderson of the home; daughter Ashley Mueller and husband Chad of Sedgwick, Kansas; son Travis Henderson and fiancé Staci Guffey of Hennessey, Oklahoma; two sisters, Barbara Nichols and husband John of Oklahoma City; Mary Jane "MJ" Smith and husband Rob of Cushing; brother Scott Henderson and wife Deeann of Altus, Oklahoma; grandchildren Camden and Caleb Mueller and Aaron Henderson; brother-in-law Leon Crosswhite of Hennessey, Oklahoma; brother-in-law Mike Thomason and wife Mary of Eldorado; sister-in-law, Elaine Gunkel and husband Kenneth of Lawton, Oklahoma, as well as many nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
Viewing hours will be from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Eldorado and from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Eldorado.
The family will greet friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Corinth Baptist Church, Eldorado with Pastor Ricky Crouch officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, Eldorado, Oklahoma.
Following the burial there will be a Celebration Gathering in honor of John's life at the Eldorado Community Center for family and friends, all are invited.
