Obituary for John Edward Chennault
John Edward Chennault was born March 20, 1915 in Elk City, OK to Jobe E. and Elizabeth (Dunlap) Chennault. He was married to Mary Victoria Jones on March 28, 1937 at the First Baptist Church of Altus.
Mr. Chennault died in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma October 29th, 1998 at Integris Medical Center. He graduated from Dalhart Texas High School and Amarillo Texas Junior College where he played football for the Amarillo Badgers. He also attended and played football at Altus Junior College. He was a long time deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Altus where he also taught Sunday School and Training Union. Mr. Chennault served on the Altus School Board for eight years.
For years he was engaged in farming and later served on the Altus Police Department for 16 years. He was Dispatcher and later Desk Sergeant. He also served as Chaplain for the Altus Police Department.
John was a kind and loving man to family, friends and neighbors. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by Victoria, who resides in Oklahoma City at the Baptist Retirement Center; two sons, Dr. Henry L. Chennault and wife Maxine of Edmond, OK and Rev. John V. Chennault and wife Judy of El Reno; four grandchildren, Robert Mark of Las Vegas, NV, John Michael of Aiken, SC, Kristi Chennault of Ponca City and Misti Chennault Cussen of Tulsa; also five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Stephanie, Philip and Sydney of Las Vegas and Katie Chennault of Aiken, SC. He is also survived by his brother Sam of Dalhart, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents of Dalhart, TX and his sister, Nettie Phillips of Amarillo.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m.Tuesday, November 3, 1998 at the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel with sons Dr. Henry L. Chennault and Rev John Chennault officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
The family will be receiving family and friends Monday, November 2, 1998 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
