GLENN

John Mark Glenn, age 60, of Altus, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at his residence, in Altus.

Mark was born in Jackson County on August 11, 1953, to Adrian and Orilla (Allen) Glenn. After attending Eugene Field School Elementary, Central Junior High and graduating from Altus High School in 1971, Mark entered the world of news reporting and never looked back. For over thirty-five years, Mark spent time in the news and sports fields, including more than thirty of those years with the Altus Times. From 1972-1984 he covered the City of Altus, Jackson County and crime beats for the Altus Times, and was also an assistant to the sports editor. Mark left the Times in 1984 to work at KWHW Radio in both news and sports. From 1987 to 1990 he was an area news reporter for the Lawton Constitution. Mark rejoined the Altus Times staff in 1993 as a general reporter, was later promoted to Assistant Managing Editor, and was currently serving as the Altus Times Sports Editor. In 2007, Mark was inducted into the Oklahoma Press Association"s Quarter Century Club. The award honors those who have dedicated 25 or more years of professional service to the newspaper industry. He was also recognized by Western Oklahoma State College, as well as being inducted to the Jackson County Athletics Hall of Fame. Through the years, Mark reported on many things and interviewed many people, but fondly remembered his six most favorite interviews; local celebrity, Eddie Fisher, Andrelton Simmons of the Atlanta Braves, Juan Carlos Perez of the San Francisco Giants, OU Coach Barry Switzer and sports reporters Bob Barry, Sr. and Bob Barry, Jr. Mark was a friend to many and will be sorely missed.

Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by one brother, Jerry Glenn; a friend, close as a brother, David Martin, his wife Kathi and their children Maegan and Matt; and a close friend, Michell Burdine and Coach Kurt Russell and the Western Oklahoma State Baseball Team.

Funeral services for Mark Glenn will be on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
