Obituary for John Rheamon Lewis
John Rheamon Lewis, 85, of Altus, OK, passed away Sunday, November 14, 2010 at his home.
John was born August 16, 1925, in Cotton County, Oklahoma to John Sterling and Bessie (Mixa) Lewis. He grew up in the Geronimo, Ok. area and graduated from Geronimo High School. On July 27, 1950, he married Mary Lois Curtis in Lawton, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death Jan. 28, 1971.
Mr. Lewis was a member of the Baptist faith, the VFW, the NRA, the American Legion and was a past member of Geronimo School Board for many years. John proudly served in the US Army and received the Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He moved to the Altus area 12 years ago. John was an avid reader and kept up on current events. He loved watching his grandchildren"s activities. For many years he ran a custom harvesting business and enjoyed farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Bessie Lewis; his wife, Mary Lois Curtis-Lewis; an infant daughter, Cindy Ann Lewis and two sisters, Thelma Stewart and Elma Frazier.
John is lovingly survived by five children, Shirley Rowland and husband Jasper, John Stanton Lewis, Darrell Lewis, Charles Lewis and Sherry Phillips and husband Mikeal; five brothers, Henry "Hank" Lewis, Bill Lewis and wife Dorothy, Russell Lewis and wife Margaret, Harvey Lewis and wife Janie, and Arthur Lewis and wife Wanda; two sisters, Betty Kriz and Margie Schlapbach; fifteen grandchildren, Mary Lea Rowland and Ron Bowers; Nikki Lewis and Mike Moe; Marina Lewis; John Arthur Lewis and Gina Perry; Darrell S.C. Lewis and Mikel Lewis; Haylea Lewis; Geary Lewis; Ricky Patterson; Kari Lynn Lewis; Kelly Dee Corpuz and Richard Corpuz; Trenton Phillips; Wesley Phillips and Andrea; Michelle Sharp and Jared; Kristy Bowdre and Wade Bowdre; and Sara Stein and John; and by 15 great-grandchildren. John is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Services have been scheduled for 11:00 am, Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, Lowell-Tims Chapel with Preacher Eddie Coast officiating. Interment will be at 1:30pm in the Walters Cemetery with Lowell-Tims Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive guests at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6:30 until 8:00 pm.
