Johnnie Fletcher, age 85, of Granite, passed away Saturday morning, November 26, 2011, at Great Plains Medical Center, in Mangum.
Mr. Fletcher was born near Granite, Oklahoma on July 4, 1926, to Willie Eddie and Etta (McFarlin) Fletcher. After attending Liberty School and graduating from Ozark School, in Greer County, he began farming and driving a school bus. While driving the bus, he met the love of his life, Mary Lou Cannady, and they were married on November 23, 1948, in Wellington, Texas and spent the next sixty-three wonderful years together before his death. Establishing their first home west of Granite, they moved into Granite in 1958, while Johnnie worked for Willis Monument Company. Johnnie later established Fletcher Monument Company where he worked until retiring in 2008, due to declining health. For many years, Johnnie served as an EMT for Granite Emergency Medical Services and was a Mason. In his spare time he attended his grandchildren"s ballgames, stock shows, and athletic events and enjoyed a game of bowling when possible.
Preceded in death by his parents, one son, Loyd Fletcher, a son-in-law, Guy Brooks and eleven siblings, Johnnie is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of the home; three daughters, Anne Brooks of Granite, Maratha Zachary of Trinidad, Colorado and Tammy Rogers and husband Barry of Branson, Colorado; one daughter-in- law, Brenda Fletcher of Garden City, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Shelly Holt and husband Justin of Mangum, Landon Brooks and wife Candice of Mangum, Rod Zachary and wife Kim of Granite, Scout Zachary and wife Robin of Reed, Zac Zachary and wife Tara of Mangum, Katy Diemer and husband Ed of Trinidad, Colorado, Brian Rogers and wife Elisa of Trinidad, Colorado, Keith Fletcher and wife Suzi of Garden City, Kansas and Krista Knackstedt and husband Justin of Pratt, Kansas; twenty-one great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; five sisters, Audie Smith of Spring, Texas, Betty Banks and husband Bob of Piedmont, Oklahoma, Faye Weaver and husband Wayne of Panama, Oklahoma, Marie Cline of Oakwood, Oklahoma and Linda Denham of Yukon, Oklahoma along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Johnnie Fletcher will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at the Granite First United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Luscia and Rev. Del Watkins officiating. Interment will follow at Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
