RISINGER

Johnnie L. Risinger, age 81, of Altus, passed away Thursday evening, March 6, 2014, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus.

Johnnie was born August 2, 1932, to Allie Mae (Madden) and L.O. "Doc" Risinger in the Hess Community, Jackson County, Oklahoma. He graduated from Southside High School in 1950, and from the University of Oklahoma in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Johnnie lettered three years in baseball, playing first base. He and Peggy Ann Briscoe were married on May 29, 1952, in the home of her parents" home, Iva and Loyd Briscoe, also of the Hess Community.

Johnnie began his career as a teacher and coach. During this time, he was positively influenced by the head coach and friend, Mark Belew. He made his profession of faith and was baptized in the Fargo Baptist Church at Northside, Texas.

He later was hired as the first Recreation Director for the City of Altus. He later became a partner in R & S Sporting Goods, and continued with line of work with the Gibson Stores for many years. He later worked with the Wilmes Companies. More recently, he assisted his son Mark, in the operation of Risinger Electric.

He was a lifetime member of the Varsity O Club of the University of Oklahoma. He was also one of the original founders of the Jackson County Athletic Hall of Fame. In recent years he served as secretary and treasurer of the organization, resigning only when his health began to fail. Johnnie instrumental in organizing the Altus All Sports Association. He has been a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus, Oklahoma.

Johnnie is survived by his wife, Peggy and four children, Kris Terry, Mark Risinger, Marilyn O"Neil and Kelly Risinger. Kris and her husband, Tim, live in Dallas, Texas, and have two children, Ryan and Jane, who is married to Saif Khalaf. Mark, and his wife, Teresa live in Jackson County. Mark has two children, Owen and Sydney, who is married to Nate Aschenbrenner. Marilyn has one daughter, Katy, who is married to Jason Sullivan. Kelly and his wife, Edurne, have one son, Paxti. Johnnie is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Genna, Aeden, Realeigh, Penelope and Barrett. Johnnie is survived by his brother, Tony, and his wife Mildred, and four sisters-in-law, Pat Easley, Carmen Briscoe, Jane Beach, and Mary Briscoe. He had the good fortune to have many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, four brothers-in-law, Donald Easley, Sonny Briscoe, Tommy Beach, Kenny Briscoe, one sister-in-law, Vonnie Risinger, one niece, Karen Crow, and one grand-nephew, Brandon Beach

Funeral services for Johnnie Risinger will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel following a private interment on Sunday morning.

The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
