WILSON
Johnny Wilson, age 73, a longtime resident of Granite, passed away Thursday evening, February 23, 2017 at his farm place in Granite.
Johnny was born in Hayward, California on May 3, 1943 to his parents Cleo Thomas Wilson and Mary Ethel (Romine) Wilson. He grew up in Lone Wolf and Granite and graduated class of 1961 from Granite High School. Johnny went to work for Kerr McGee in the Oklahoma City area as a mail clerk and in accounting. On May 28, 1964 he married the love of his life Rita Nan Ringer in Granite and they enjoyed over 52 years of marriage together. As a young married couple they lived in Oklahoma City and Moore. During this time Johnny enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard/Air Guard and he served his country for seventeen years until he retired with an honorable discharge. After living in Moore, Johnny and Rita moved back home to Granite and he started his 35-year career with Southwestern Bell until retiring in 2001. In 1978 Johnny was accepted by the Greer County Sheriff"s Reserve and served for ten years assisting in security for snake hunts, Girl Scout Camps, and many other police requests. He also was a longtime member of the Granite Fire Department and the Greer County Ambulance Service where he worked Ambulance calls up until his death. Johnny was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and was a member of the Granite Church of Christ where he served as a Church Elder. He was active in the Prison Ministry program with Larry Ware serving at the Oklahoma State Reformatory. He served as a Granite School Board member multiple times and was a member of the Lion"s Club. Johnny served his community and was very important to the growth and development of what makes Greer County and Granite great today. With all his work serving his community Johnny still found time to work the family farm and cattle ranch where he enjoyed working his cattle and driving tractors. Johnny loved God, his family, his community, and he lived to serve others, he will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tommie Wilson; Johnny is survived by his wife Rita Nan Wilson of the home; two sons, Jonathan Wilson and wife Lisa of Tuttle; and Loren Wilson of Granite and his significant other, April Harrison of Mountain Park; one sister Shirley Milburn and husband Robert of Bethany; two granddaughters, Devyn Wilson of Tuttle and Marissa Harrison of Mountain Park; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Wilson-West of Oklahoma City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other family members, and many friends.
The family will receive friends at visitation from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Greer Funeral Home in Granite.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Granite Church of Christ in Granite with Ken Hamilton officiating. Interment will follow at Granite Rock Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home, Granite, Oklahoma.
