Obituary for Julia Berniece Pierce

Julia Berniece Pierce, age 82, of Martha, passed away peacefully, with her husband at her side, early Saturday morning, June 13, 2009, at Grace Living Center in Norman.
Mrs. Pierce was born on September 16, 1926, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma to William Larry and Gracie L. (Martin) Ezell. Julia spent her childhood and teenage years in Wynnewood, where she married Pete Pierce, the love of her life, on October 13, 1942. They spent the next sixty-six wonderful years together before her death on Saturday. The Pierces were long-time residents of Martha where they raised their children and were active in their community. Julia served as a city councilperson and mayor of the Town of Martha for a number of years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Martha. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer"s and as her condition worsened, she and Pete moved to English Village Manor in Altus where they lived until recently before moving to Grace Living Center in Norman.
Preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; four brothers; one daughter, Cloyie and one son, Allen, she is survived by her husband, Pete; three daughters, Anita Duncan and husband Jack of Norman, Eva Jackson and husband Jerry of Oklahoma City and Pamela Stephens and husband Dan of Arcadia; one son, Steve Pierce and wife Michele of Durant; seven grandchildren, David Duncan and wife Marla of Norman, Derrek Duncan and wife Cher of Norman, Mark Pierce of Altus, Angie Bannister of Marlow, Russell Foster and wife Lisa of Oklahoma City, Madison Pierce of Norman and Spencer Pierce of Durant; nine great grandchildren, Kathryn and Elizabeth Duncan, Taylor, Hailey and Cadyn Duncan, Molly Pierce, Justin and Alaina Bannister and Maxwell Foster along with many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Julia Pierce will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Martha Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Monday, June 15, 2009, from 6 until 7 p.m.
