Obituary for Kerry Annette Lewis

Kerry Annette (Powell) Lewis passed away on May 26, 2020, in Oklahoma City at the age of 70.
Kerry was born on September 24, 1949, in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Elmo and Delma (Goodwin) Powell. She was the youngest of 3 and joined her brother and sister, Denny and Pam.

The family followed the oil industry living outside of Opie, Kansas, and later in Eureka, Kansas, before settling in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, where Kerry spent the majority of her childhood. She and her family spent a lot of time with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was described by her cousins as the most fun and the best storyteller. She will always be remembered for her quick wit and sense of humor.

At the age of 11 Kerry gave her heart to Jesus while attending the Wynnewood Nazarene Church and continued a life-long relationship with her Savior. She was later baptized along with her parents and siblings at Westside Baptist Church in Wynnewood.

Kerry was active in Wynnewood High School where she was a Cheerleader and Cheer Captain. She graduated in 1967. That same year she married Dick Lewis and they started their life together in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.

Kerry's only dream in life was to be a mom. She and Dick welcomed 3 children – Shelli, Crissy and Phillip. The family moved many times including Lawton, Oklahoma; Miami, Florida; Omaha, Nebraska and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before Kerry and the kids settled in Marlow, Oklahoma, to be near her parents and sister.

After moving to Marlow, Kerry worked at Goodner's Flower Shop and finished her career at State National Bank where she worked as a bank teller and receptionist for over 25 years. She retired in 2014.

Kerry didn't care about the riches of the world but only about the riches of her heart. She loved her children fiercely. She was their biggest cheerleader and greatest supporter. Her world was finally complete when she became a grandmother and great grandmother.

Kerry enjoyed crocheting, reading and visiting with her family. And she loved a good story and a big laugh.

Kerry is preceded in death by her parents Elmo and Delma Powell.

Kerry is survived and cherished by her daughter Shelli Payne and husband David of Marlow, daughter Crissy McKay and husband Devin of Edmond, son Phillip Lewis of Katy, Texas, grandchildren Brittany, Logan, Tayte, Dustin and Emily, great grandson Evan, brother Denny Powell of Iraan, Texas, sister Pam Ferguson and her husband Louis of Marlow and several nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial was held Friday, May 29th.
